Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP)

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and implemented in accordance with the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP) by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Kerala State Higher Education Curriculum Framework, the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) introduces a transformative, flexible, and interdisciplinary academic model designed to enhance student choice, mobility, and career readiness.


Key Highlights of FYUGP

  • Academic Flexibility: Option to switch disciplines or majors based on evolving interests and career goals.

  • Choice-Based Curriculum: Students may select courses from across disciplines, promoting broad-based and holistic learning.

  • Multiple Entry & Exit Pathways:

    • After 3 Years: Award of UG Degree (minimum 133 credits)

    • After 4 Years: UG Honours / UG Honours with Research (minimum 177 credits)

  • Mobility Across Institutions: Opportunities for students to pursue multi-disciplinary and inter-institutional education.

  • Flexible Learning Modes: Incorporates offline, online, open distance learning (ODL), and hybrid delivery methods.

  • Academic Pause & Re-entry: Students may take a break in study and resume later without academic penalty.

  • Major Change Option: Flexibility to revise major area of study at the beginning of the second academic year.

  • Direct Ph.D. Eligibility: Students completing UG Honours with Research are eligible to apply directly for Ph.D. programmes.


FYUGP at ICA College – Academic Year 2024–25 Onwards

  • 🎓 10 Undergraduate Programmes under the FYUGP structure.

  • 🧑‍🎓 Students enroll in a Major (Core Discipline) and may choose Minors from other departments based on individual academic and career interests.

  • 🛠️ Placement Training integrated into the academic framework for all UG students.

  • 🧩 Skill-Oriented Add-On Courses offered to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

  • 📚 Access to a state-of-the-art Library and modern academic infrastructure.


Academic Framework

  • 📅 Semester System:

    • Two semesters per academic year

    • Each semester spans 18 weeks (including 15 weeks of instruction and 3 weeks for examinations and assessments)

  • 🏢 Internships & Vocational Exposure:

    • Internships, apprenticeships, and work-based vocational training are encouraged during the summer term.


Credit System

  • One credit =

    • 15 hours of lectures or tutorials

    • OR 30 hours of practical engagement

    • PLUS 30 hours of learner-driven study or academic engagement

  • A standard 4-credit course includes:

    • 60 hours of instructional activity per semester (lectures, tutorials, or practicals)


Definitions

  • Programme: The full academic journey culminating in the award of a degree.

  • Course: A unit of study within a programme that may include lectures, lab work, projects, seminars, fieldwork, or internships.

  • Syllabus: A structured outline of course content, prescribed texts, learning outcomes, and assessment strategies.
